Build the Foundation Before You Say “I Do”

Marriage is more than a wedding day. It is the beginning of building a life, making decisions together, navigating change, and creating a family culture of your own.

Premarital therapy provides a space to slow down, have the conversations that can be easy to avoid, and intentionally build the foundation for the marriage you want.

Common Concerns

You may be preparing for marriage while navigating:

  • Communication and conflict

  • Differences in expectations about marriage

  • Finances and financial decision-making

  • Sex, intimacy, and affection

  • Parenting and future children

  • Family boundaries and in-laws

  • Faith, values, and spirituality

  • Household responsibilities

  • Career and life goals

  • Where and how you want to build your life together

  • Different family backgrounds and traditions

  • Concerns about repeating patterns from your families of origin

You may love each other deeply and still have important conversations to have.

Premarital Therapy

You're in the Right Place If...

Your Relationship May Be...

Excited—but unsure what comes next.

You can't wait to build a life together, but you're realizing there are conversations you've never had.

Having the same disagreements.

You love each other, but certain topics quickly turn into arguments or shutdowns.

Coming from very different families.

Your ideas about communication, money, roles, parenting, faith, or marriage may have been shaped by very different experiences.

Entering a major life transition.

Marriage may also mean moving, combining finances, changing careers, navigating family expectations, or preparing for children.

Wanting to be proactive.

Nothing is necessarily “wrong.” You simply want to start your marriage with intention and the tools to navigate challenges together.

How We Support You

Start With Understanding

Premarital therapy is primarily Gottman-informed, focusing on friendship, communication, conflict management, shared meaning, and the relational patterns that shape your relationship.

We'll also make space to explore family-of-origin and intergenerational influences when they show up in your relationship.

Together, we may explore:

  • How you communicate and respond during conflict

  • Your emotional needs and expectations

  • Strengths and areas for growth

  • How your families shaped your beliefs about marriage

  • How you approach money, work, parenting, and household responsibilities

  • Boundaries with extended family

  • Intimacy and connection

  • Shared values, faith, and meaning

  • Dreams and goals for your future

  • The kind of family culture you want to create

The goal is not to eliminate differences. It's to help you learn how to navigate those differences as a team.

PREPARE/ENRICH Assessment

As part of premarital therapy, we may incorporate the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment to help you and your partner better understand your relationship.

The assessment provides an opportunity to identify your relationship strengths and areas for growth across important areas of your life together.

We may use your results to facilitate conversations around:

  • Communication

  • Conflict resolution

  • Partner styles and personality

  • Financial expectations

  • Sexual relationship and intimacy

  • Family and friends

  • Spirituality and values

  • Roles and responsibilities

  • Parenting expectations

  • Relationship strengths

  • Areas that may benefit from additional attention

The assessment isn't a test you pass or fail—and it doesn't determine whether you should get married.

It's a tool for starting deeper conversations.
